A Charleston-based restaurant group is bringing a taste of Brazil to Myrtle Beach.

TBonz Restaurant Group last month launched Rioz Brazilian Steakhouse at 2920 Hollywood Drive, across from the Broadway at the Beach shopping and entertainment complex.

It's a new concept for the restaurant chain, which operates 15 locations in the Carolinas and Georgia under banners including TBonz Gill & Grill, Liberty Tap Room & Grill and Pearlz Oyster & Raw Bar.

Like a traditional Brazilian steak house, Rioz specializes in meats such as chicken, beef and lamb that are roasted over a large charcoal grill.

Trained Brazilian "gauchos," or servers, circle the 400-seat restaurant with skewers of meat, which is sliced to order as customers request it.

TBonz co-owners Jerry Scheer, Mark Cumins and David Miller joined forces with a Brazilian partner, Orlando Priessler, to bring the concept to the Grand Strand.

CAIPIRINHA
2 tsp granulated sugar
8 limes wedges
2 1/2 oz cachaca
Muddle the sugar into the lime wedges in an old-fashioned glass. Fill the glass with ice cubes. Pour the cachaca into the glass. Stir well.

Caipirinha is Brazil's national cocktail made with Cachaça. Like rum, it is made from sugarcane, however, cachaça is made from sugarcane juice whereas rum is made from molasses, a byproduct of the sugar refining process.
